Pune airport to shut for 2 weeks: these are the dates | Condé Nast Traveller India

Pune’s sole airport will remain completely shut for 14 days in April and May. The airport at Lohegaon will be inoperational from 26 April to 9 May 2021, as it undergoes runway resurfacing work.

Commercial flights at Pune airport operate out of an Indian Air Force airbase. The airstrip has been undergoing repairs since October last year. For now, work has been taking place at night, which is why no flights take off or land at Pune between 8pm and 8am. For the 14 days in April and May though, the airport will see a total shutdown.

Pune’s new airport at Purandar: the wait continues

Meanwhile, Pune’s wait for a larger airport continues. Land acquisition issues have stalled the project. The new airport is expected to come up in Purandar, about 40km south of the city, towards Satara. The site originally proposed for the airport has changed and authorities are now in the process of acquiring land for the new one nearby. A ray of hope for international fliers to Pune is the upcoming international airport at Navi Mumbai about 100km from the city. The airport is expected to see its first flight early next year.
