If you want to experience the igloo life with a hint of luxury, we know what you need. The Keylinga campsite in Manali currently has three igloos up for grabs, with two more that will be ready by mid-January. The igloos are perfect for a romantic weekend getaway.
Don’t worry, you won’t freeze inside
The thermostat in these ice domes is perpetually set at zero degrees, so it can get extremely chilly. At present, the temperatures in Manali range from a maximum of 3 to 7℃ during the day, but can drop to a freezing – 4℃ at night. In January, the minimum drops to – 9℃. You will be provided with warm mattresses, warm feather sleeping bags, extra fleece blankets and hot water bottles to combat the cold, but if you still suspect your body won’t be able to handle it, you can bring your own thermals and woollies.
If you’re concerned about using blankets and mattresses that were previously used, they’re all sanitised and washed after the guests depart. The igloo can’t accommodate a bathroom, so there are well maintained shared toilets outside the igloos in enclosed tents, equipped with hot water for you to use. You will have to go a day without showering, as they don’t have any bathing facilities.
For a perfectly snowy Christmas, you can book a one-night package for two for Rs5,500. The package includes:
- All meals and unlimited hot beverages to keep you warm
- All activities including skiing, tube sliding and igloo making. If you don’t know how to ski, you can avail lessons at an additional price.
- A snow dress for when you’re partaking in the activities
Additionally, you’re advised to carry a warm woollen cap, thermals, waterproof gloves, thick woollen socks, woollen sweaters and it’s mandatory for you to carry sunglasses and sunscreen. To keep with the COVID-19 protocols, you’ll also be required to wear a facemask at all times, which will be rather welcome considering the cold.
How can you reach the Keylinga campsite in Manali?
The campsite is located about 18km from the city centre in Manali and is only accessible by 4×4 vehicles when it’s snowing. You can avail the transportation services to and from the campsite at an additional cost of Rs3,500 while making your booking.
The igloo stays are only up for grabs until mid-March before the snow melts, so if you want to build a snowman for Christmas, get cracking!
