Dehradun lockdown: town will remain shut on weekends | Condé Nast Traveller India

Weekend lockdowns to curb the spread of COVID are back once again in Dehradun. On these days, all non-essential stores will be closed and the city will be sanitised.

Dehradun lockdown

Closure of stores on Saturday and Sunday was in effect in Rishikesh, Mussoorie and other tehsils of the Dehradun district before the festive season. However, the practice was suspended in the interest of shopkeepers during the celebrations. The move has been effective in curbing the spread of the virus, as per officials.

There is no word yet on restrictions on travel to Dehradun.

To combat the spread of COVID-19, the Dehradun District Administration has also started conducting Rapid Antigen Tests for people entering from other states at the Aasarodhi Interstate Check Post. These random tests are also being conducted in Noida, Faridabad and Gurugram for those driving down from Delhi.

Curbs in Himachal too

Besides Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh has imposed a night curfew in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu and Kangra districts from 8pm to 6am. The decision was taken soon after an entire village tested positive for COVID in Lahaul-Spiti.
