While Disney movies are often heavily praised for the heart that they have, the moral lessons they teach and the emotions that they can pull from people, they also tend to be very funny. Obviously, these are animated films and while Disney does cover some serious and sensitive topics at times, it always does so in a fun manner that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
After all, these movies are primarily aimed at younger audiences, and the best way to keep their attention is certainly through the world of comedy. Every Disney movie has some element of comedy within it, but the company has created some hilarious films throughout its history that are jam-packed with laugh out loud moments.
10 Tangled (2010)
Tangled is one of the best princess movies that Disney has ever made, and a big reason for that is the sheer amount of humor that is filled in throughout. Rapunzel herself is a very funny character, mainly because she is totally out of her comfort zone, but she’s also happy to stand up for herself and that leads to some great moments.
But it really is the supporting characters that make this movie so funny. Maximus, in particular, is very funny, with his love/hate relationship with Flynn Rider really being a standout, while the scene in the pub that saw the characters stereotypes totally smashed also being fun.
9 A Goofy Movie (1995)
A Goofy Movie is a film that often goes under the radar because it isn’t one of the classic Disney animated movies. However, it is a fantastic film and one that is a ton of fun that provides some amazing physical comedy with Goofy being his usual clumsy, over the top self.
They have a great relationship that feels really genuine and that leads to some hilarious moments taking place. Both of them are just so awkward, but in the most charming and funny manner possible, which really makes for a funny movie.
8 Zootopia (2016)
Zootopia is a movie that is particularly funny to adult audiences, as it has a lot of on the nose comments and moments that might go over the head of a younger fan. However, Disney films are for everybody and that is why this is one of the funniest movies because the comedy is for older viewers.
There’s a lot of smart references to other films and television shows, such as Breaking Bad, which are really funny. Plus, the back and forth friendship between Judy and Nick is excellently done, having a lot of banter that is fun to see.
7 Frozen (2013)
Frozen is obviously an unbelievably popular movie and a big reason that it connected with so many people is because of how much humor is involved. Obviously, Olaf is a big part of that, being Disney’s funniest sidekick of all time, popping up with hilarious one-liners throughout the film.
His inquisitive mind is a lot of fun as he questions everything and tries to learn as much as possible. But Kristoff and Sven are also a lot of fun in this one, with Sven being quite sarcastic with his reactions to certain situations, with some really funny facial expressions.
6 Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
Wreck-It Ralph is a movie full of inside jokes, primarily aimed at gamers which people absolutely loved. It’s just a really smartly written movie with some excellent inside jokes which pokes fun at certain gaming moments, all while paying tribute to classic games and characters.
Right from the start, seeing iconic villains meeting to try not to be bad guys anymore, it is clear that the movie will have a comedic tone. That doesn’t let up at any point and once Ralph and Vanellope meet the film really kicks into another gear in terms of comedy, with their friendship being incredibly fun.
5 Lilo And Stitch (2002)
Much like Wreck-It Ralph, Lilo And Stich has tons of physical comedy, with Stitch being a big part of that. He gets the right blend between causing complete chaos while not being seen as a menace. Instead, Stitch is just mischievous and cheeky, and it leads to some really funny scenes.
Seeing him dressed up as Elvis Presley, dancing around and playing the guitar is an iconic scene from this movie and is also a ton of fun. But Lilo also brings a lot of humor to the movie as well, being a very mature head on young shoulders sees some funny moments between her and her sister, which is written really well.
4 Mulan (1998)
Mulan has moments where it is quite serious, with plenty of action being placed into this film which makes sense with the plot. However, there is tons of comedy in this one as well, which mainly comes through the sidekicks, Mushu and the lucky cricket, Cri-Kee.
Their reactions to things that Mulan says and does are very funny, with Eddie Murphy bringing some incredible one-liners with his over the top charisma really working well here. Plus, the three soldiers that Mulan becomes friends with also bring tons of fun here, being incredibly over the top with their distinct and unique personalities.
3 Big Hero 6 (2014)
Big Hero 6 has some seriously emotional moments and that makes it quite a sensitive movie at times. However, this is also one of the most hilarious Disney movies of all time, and a lot of that is down to Baymax and his incredibly dry, straight to the point comments.
Baymax is programmed in a truly robotic fashion in the sense that he just says exactly what he sees and thinks. It’s very unintentional humor, but it is really funny, plus the physical comedy that comes from him when he deflates is also fantastic.
2 Aladdin (1992)
Any movie that has Robin Williams as one of the lead roles where he is allowed to do a lot of improvisation is always going to lead to a hilarious movie. That was the case with Aladdin, which is one of Disney’s greatest movies, but one that really delivers on the humor.
The Genie is such a funny character, bringing out great one-liners that will entertain younger viewers while providing a lot of funny commentaries that adults will connect with. But while he gets a lot of attention, Iaago slips under the radar as a hilariously grumpy villain sidekick, while Abu and the Magic Carpet fill the movie with physical comedy.
1 The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)
When it comes to Disney’s funniest movie, there is no question that The Emperor’s New Groove is the pick of the bunch. This movie is filled with hilarious one-liners from start to finish and it never lets up on delivering a great range of humor.
There’s physical comedy, sarcasm, dry wit, and over the top comedy that really provides something for everyone. The back and forth bickering between Kuzco and Pacha is a lot of fun, while Kronk is arguably the single-funniest Disney character of all time with his hilarious comments bringing a lot of charm to this great film.
