Arnold Schwarzenegger Will Make TV Debut With Netflix Spy Drama Series

Action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger will make his TV debut with a Netflix spy drama series, created by the team behind Amazon’s Jack Reacher series.

The Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger will make his TV debut with a Netflix spy drama series. Schwarzenegger is an iconic action star thanks to his legendary 80s/90s blockbusters, such as Commando, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and True Lies. However, since his full-time return to Hollywood in 2012, alongside attempts at rebooting past franchises like with Terminator: Dark Fate, or more expected action films like The Expendables, Schwarzenegger has been a little more experimental. He’s played more dramatic roles and has even lent his voice for the Predator video game. Now, it looks like Schwarzenegger is experimenting with another new world, scripted television.

Deadline has reported that Nick Santora and Skydance’s (the same team behind Amazon’s Jack Reacher) hour-long spy drama series, starring Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro, is heading to Netflix for development in a script-to-series deal. The spy story will reportedly revolve around Schwarzenegger’s character and his daughter, who will be played by Barbaro. Schwarzenegger will also reportedly serve as an executive producer for the series, and if the series does move forward, it will be the Terminator star’s first real venture into regular scripted television.

The blend of the spy genre and Schwarzenegger, even if it is television, will likely provide fans with positive memories, as it may automatically take people back to True Lies. Whether or not it’s similar to True Lies in the sense that Schwarzenegger will be a spy and hide that fact from his loved ones remains to be seen, but the father/daughter dynamic does help adjust to the fact that we have an older action star. The series sounds more fitting and exciting than the previously announced Amazon series Schwarzenegger agreed to be a part of, which was the western Outrider. Hopefully, if this new Netflix spy drama is Schwarzenegger’s TV debut, it is a successful one and one that gives him a new long-term project to attach himself to.
