Jean Trebek, wife of the late Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, thanks fans for their messages of compassion and shares a lovely wedding photo. Tributes to the legendary TV host have been pouring in from all quarters following the announcement of Trebek’s death at the age of 80 this past Sunday. Trebek, a Canadian by birth, hosted the nightly quiz show for 37 years, from its revival in 1984 up until this year. Trebek had just begun work on the latest season of the show before his passing, and had been contracted to stay on until 2022.
He passed after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, which was revealed in a video in early 2019. Trebek later revealed he had responded incredibly well to treatment and credited his fans and supporters for his good recovery. Unfortunately, in the end he couldn’t overcome the disease, and the world lost a TV legend. His final episode as Jeopardy host will air on Christmas Day, a fitting end for a career that was unequalled in TV history. Trebek was a Guinness world record-holder as host of movie TV game show episodes, and the quality of his hosting never dimmed, in spite of his advancing years.

Trebek’s passing has indeed garnered a number of tributes, including one on the show itself, with executive producer Mike Richards paying a heartfelt and emotional tribute to Trebek on Monday’s episode of the show. The outpouring of love, mingled with grief, is a testament to the effect Trebek had on many people’s lives, with Jeopardy! becoming a daily routine for many, and contestants, like Ken Jennings, becoming celebrities in their own right.
