Grimm TV Show Concept Art Has Detailed Look At Skalengeck Lizard People

Nightmarish Grimm concept art by Jerad S. Marantz gives fans a detailed look at a Skalengeck, which Marantz designed to have scaly skin and horns.

Some terrifying Grimm concept art gives fans a detailed look at a Skalengeck. Grimm follows the adventures of detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), who finds out that he is a Grimm, a guardian tasked with maintaining the balance between humans and the Wesen. The series came to an end in 2017 after six seasons and over 120 episodes.

Nick encounters a number of mythological creatures — known as Wesen — throughout the series. That being said, Skalengecks are lizard-like Wesen who appear in Grimm’s first episode. Skalengecks are shown with scaly skin, pointed teeth, and gilled necks. Skalengecks are typically depicted as violent and arrogant; as a result, many aren’t afraid to take on more skilled opponents. In addition, notable Skalengecks include Joshua Hall (Sean Cook) and Clint Vickers (Paul Glazier), among others.

Jerad S. Marantz uploads some incredible concept art on Instagram, which provides an up-close look at a Skalengeck. Marantz’s version of the Wesen somewhat resembles a horned frog, with horns adorning the Skalengeck’s face and hairline. The Skalengeck also has black eyes with red, vertical pupils, as well as green, scaly skin. You can catch Marantz’s design of the Skalengeck below:

While Skalengecks are certainly frightening, they are far from the only Wesen that Nick had to deal with. Hexenbiests, for instance, make their debut in Grimm’s pilot as well. They look like rotting corpses, and possess a number of powerful abilities, including telekinesis and superhuman strength. Another nightmarish type of Wesen are the Mellifers. These creatures are nothing short of humanoid bees. What’s more, their stingers contain toxin that’s potent enough to take out a Hexenbiest, which shows that Mellifers aren’t to be trifled with. To that end, although Skalengecks are terrifying in their own right, Nick has held his own against a myriad of Wesen, with each scarier than the last.

Although Grimm started off with a few shaky episodes, the show quickly found its footing. Before long, Grimm gained a glowing reputation as one of the best fantasy series out there. That’s not to say that the show was perfect after season 1; in fact, fans still remember the controversial decision to kill off Nick’s mom, Kelly (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) on screen in season 4. All in all, though, Grimm was able to transform into an incredibly popular fan favorite. As such, while the show has been over for a few years now, many Grimm enthusiasts still look back fondly on Nick’s action-packed adventures.
